Great Northern Divers Preening

I had other shots but thought I'd post one of the birds preening. The temptation is always to photo a bird in a 'good pose' so often preening goes unrecorded, but birds spend a lot of time doing it. Humans preen through vanity but it is vital to a bird to keep its plumage in full, working order. These birds were offshore at the Sand of Wideford on the Bay of Inganess.
