Exploring
Another lie in, although not quite so late today, then breakfast before heading down to the other side of the Pentlands, to Glencorse reservoir. Quite busy again even though I arrived at the car park earlier than yesterday, but managed to find a space fairly easily and set off, with stick this time, to walk up to the reservoir and all along the shore, then back and up onto part of the hill and along the ridge for a while. The views from up there were just stunning, and saw geese and sheep as they tried to reach the grass below the snow.
The paths were quite icy but easy enough to find parts that were frozen mud or had snow on top to make it easy enough to walk....but coming down from the ridge I was very pleased to have the stick to steady me.
Listened to the Fleishman is in trouble book all the way, apart from sitting for a while at the water’s edge just soaking up the scene and the lovely clear air. Lots of families sledging and a fair few people walking on the paths but not so many that I couldn’t feel away from it all. Not sure why I’ve never been here before...will definitely come again.
Back at the little takeaway cafe in the car park I thought it was too late for coffee so had some of their homemade porcini soup...very fancy fare! Sat at a table at the edge of the field as I ate, looking up to the hills, and a little robin (extra) came right up to me and was rewarded with a few of my discarded croutons. Chatted to R whilst I ate, then had a bit of a struggle to get out of the parking space as it was so icy...luckily someone helped push me out and I managed to manoeuvre round the other cars even though I didn’t really feel I had a lot of control as I slid out.
Came home via supermarket for a few bits then made my first pot of sauerkraut (thanks Meles for recipe!) and settled in for a quiet evening preparing for tomorrow.
It’s been a beautiful weekend, and my hip isn’t sore...progress!
