Progress Report

We just beat the rain when we put the last plant in this morning and cleaned up the last of the buckets and shovels. They don't show much because they're quite small but they are mostly grasses and will grow fast. .We have to put a 'feature plant' in the rock garden where the stick is. Dana suggested an interesting low growing conifer with an interesting shape but we don't want to put anything super flammable that close to the house so we'll have to investigate the possibilities....but that is the fun part.

The newspaper this morning had a three page article describing why the vaccine roll-out is so slow here. The Feds kicked the logistics down the road to the states, and the state of California has kicked it down to the counties. In this county, it is being administered by the primary care physicians and whatever medical group they are associated with, but the bottom line is that there isn't enough vaccine.

They have been vaccinating front line health care workers and residents of care homes as vaccine becomes available since December 15th. Apparently it is now our turn, but it has been difficult to find out even whether we will be contacted or how to sign up. Word of mouth has been as useful as anything. A statement from my favorite county supervisor (read with heavy sarcasm) contained three different metaphors in one paragraph...one of which included 'being thrown under the bus'.Not much help there.

After checking his healthcare website daily for two weeks, he finally got an appointment on March 3rd. He was supposed to be able to include me, but there was no way to do that on the website. My healthcare website has had nothing but I did get a questionnaire from them yesterday about how old I am and how badly I want it (read 'are you going to show up if we give you an appointment?") so I think they are getting organized....and probably more information from Biden about how much vaccine they'll be receiving.

I never thought I would want nothing more for my birthday than a Covid vaccination!

I loved all the comments on my 'flock of cranes' picture yesterday. Thank yo all for offering a guess as to what it looked like. It was definitely eye catching!
