2016-10-11 (Day 285) Empire State View
This was the view from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, which we visited this evening.
We are looking WSW here, down the lines of the famous New York grid pattern. The Empire State Building lives between 5th and 6th Avenues, which you can see on the left (5th Avenue) and right (6th Avenue) sides of the centre of the picture.
The grid pattern is rudely punctured by Broadway, which you can see crossing the Fifth Avenue here. At the junction of 5th and Broadway is the world-famous Flatiron Building.
In the distance, you can see the Williamsburg Bridge, a massive suspension bridge that links Manhattan Island to Brooklyn. And the centrepiece is the new Freedom Tower, the massive new skyscraper to replace the twin towers of the World Trade Centre.
