2016-07-04 (Day 186) Redding Colliery Diaster Mem
According to the Falkirk Local History SocietyThe Redding disaster in 1923 was one of the worst to hit the Scottish coalfield.
The pit, which was run by the Nimmo famil, was west of Redding village. On 25-Sep-1923, an inrush of water killed forty men, in spite of unstinting efforts by their colleagues and the management
This beautifully-tended monument lists the names of those killed. I particularly liked its appearance today in the rain; shiny and reflective with the flowers around looking bright and colourful.
