Life's tangled skein

2016-02-10 (Day 041) The House Of The Binns Tower

The sunlight was beautiful on my way in to work this morning. In particular, it picked out the tower of the House Of The Binns, near Linlithgow.

The House Of The Binns is the historical home of the Dalyell family. Students of UK politics will know of the "West Lothian question", a thorny constitutional issue raised by Tam Dalyell. The House Of The Binns was the family home of Tam Dalyell, though he and his mother gave the house to the National Trust for Scotland in 1944.

I am struggling to find the reason for the tower being build; all I can find is that it was built in 1826 as the result of a wager, and is allegedly the site of an ancient Pictish fort.
