In 1645, the town of Bo'ness suffered from the plague. It was so bad that the Scottish Parliament had the people of neighbouring Linilthgow construct gallows, to hand anybody from Bo'ness who tried to leave the port.

Luckily things aren't so bad any more, and this footpath from Bo'ness to Linlithgow is a peaceful place with a smashing view down the Forth Estuary.

Crossing that estuary are three bridges - the Forth Rail Bridge, the Forth Road Bridge and the under-construction Queensferry Crossing.
