Walking Tall

Smiler went shopping with SWMBO and Bags - the Cygnet and I went for a walk at Bangour Village Hospital.

I liked the way the sun was shining through the trees - but it was a darned cold breeze.
The pipework was slightly confusing on one building.
Can anyone explain why it would be like this and not straight down?
