Last of the ‘essentials’ .......
You never know when a blip opportunity will strike. Today, a crumpled cellophane wrapper creates rainbows as the light shines through from the kitchen window. I’ve just removed it from a tin that had contained lebkuchen - the last of our Christmas stash.
These formed part of a package of Christmas goodies sent from our daughter-in-law’s grandparents in Germany. How generous, we said. They brushed aside our thanks, saying that they’d sent us ‘essentials’ for the festive season - hence today’s title!
They’d heard - as you might have - about the Welsh government’s ban on certain non-essential items being sold in supermarkets. The ban was lifted - and in any case we were allowed such treats - but we were humbled by their generosity and happily munched our way through the essence of a German Christmas market.
Today has seen us emerge from Storm Christoph, with clear blue skies this afternoon, so I’ve included a couple of sunlit beach scenes from our walk as extras.
