It's time for... Things In My Garden Thursday.

Today's thing is this magnolia tree that we had to bite the bullet and get pollarded a few weeks ago, as it had just got completely out of hand and had become impossible to gently summer prune enough to keep it to anything like a sensible size, which is what seems to be the advice for magnolias. It's the wrong tree for the space really and not one I'd plant if I was starting from scratch, but it was here long before we bought the house, and we are loathe to get rid of a healthy mature tree. The tree surgeon assures us it won't die despite what the internet says about never pruning them in winter, and I guess we'll find out if he's right in a few months.
