And breathe

It’s hard to describe the sense of joy felt when the wicked, tangerine clown finished his ridiculous military send off to board a helicopter and get the hell out of Washington, but it was glorious. And let’s hope the next time his crime family are all lined up shedding tears they are standing in handcuffs awaiting sentencing.

But the trials and punishment can wait for another day.

The real takeaway from today was the even greater joy of the inauguration. A jarring contrast to last time. Where that was a poorly attended Nuremberg rally, with rambling America First drivel, and a rising sense of despair, this was a party.

I had a lot more sense of hope, before he took office, about Obama, but in many ways he disappointed. A lot of people have low expectations of Biden, as a career centrist, as if his only achievement will be getting rid of the trash. But I don’t know. Maybe it is just the rising sense of relief that a functioning adult is now in charge, and the waves of decency that seem to radiate from him and his VP. Maybe it’s the stunning and inspiring performance from Amanda Gorman, which set a perfect tone. Or maybe it was the aggressively extended middle finger to everything Trump stood for of the 17 executive orders Biden signed on day 1.

But just maybe his decency and kindness makes him exactly the President needed to deliver the sort of changes that are so desperately required.

“For there is always light / If only we’re brave enough to see it / If only we’re brave enough to be it."
