Jigsaw Triptych
A busy day of furniture collection, grocery delivery, a U3A talk on recycling and two lovely long calls with friends, with just enough time to finish the final third of my jigsaws. It's a 3 part one, two 500 piece jigsaws and a 1,000 piece. I thought I'd put it together in a collage for a blip and also to actually see it as you would if you had a board big enough for all 3 at once. In the recycling talk I found the food waste figures astonishing with 1.4m untouched bananas, 600,000 uncooked eggs and 20m slices of bread thrown away every day.
Good to see President Biden sworn in and saying that 'we must end this uncivil war'.
Day 311 / Day 16 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 1,820 (a new record) to 93,290 (revised basis), with 38,905 new cases (up 5,550 from yesterday), 39,068 patients in hospital (a new record and almost twice the number from a month ago), 3,947 on ventilation and 3,887 new admissions. 4.6m have now received their first dose of the vaccine. A study of Israeli data on vaccinations using PCR test results suggests that the efficacy of one dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is only 33% in people over 60 after day 14, the UK Govt has previously said it's around 90% after 10-21 days. It's reported that the formal clinical trials only determined the effectiveness by whether or not people had symptomatic Covid-19! The CSA says the UK needs to look very carefully at new data. He also told SKY News that even with a dose of the vaccine, PPE and the use of lateral flow testing, it is not safe for indoor care home visits. A new type of ventilator has been invented in the UK which would not require the patient to be sedated or in intensive care, a full clinical trial is now needed. In video footage Pritti Patel the Home Secretary is shown saying 'On 'should we have closed our borders earlier', the answer is yes, I was an advocate of closing them last March.'
