Clock tower
Tier 5 - Day 15
This little plaque is affixed to the bottom of the Clock Tower in Epsom's High street.
The clock tower replaced a weatherboarded Watch House that dated back to around 1711 and was located by the then town pond. The Watch House was split into a fire engine house and a temporary lock-up where the village policeman was paid by the parish vestry for escorting prisoners to the nearest town after they had been locked up overnight. The extra is the Clock Tower itself (also posted in February 2020)
