Far remembered hills

For a moment today I was transported back over 40 years to the part of Britain where I was born and lived for 36 years before moving here in January 1977.
How often did I see a view like this when returning home from a trip almost anywhere vaguely north  of the south coast and remark (or at least think) 'Ah, there are the Downs, almost home.' Living in Sussex the South Downs were a constant feature of the landscape - I always lived with the sea in one direction and the Downs in the other.
Then I moved here to the Fens and could see neither sea nor hills; and greatly missed both.
Until today - when I briefly saw again the line of what Kipling described as 'Our  blunt, bow-headed, whale-backed Downs'.

But it wasn't - it was just a bank of thick cloud on the horizon!
