I popped along the A6 today to walk around the river gardens in Belper and a recce around the old mill looking for the peregrines. No luck, it really does appear that the striping of metal from inside the mill and throwing it into this skip is disturbing the birds and they are using different roosting places. The work has been going on for some weeks now and there is growing concern that it ends before the breeding season starts. Their nesting spots are all close to this noisy activity and as schedule 1 birds they are protected.
The weather forecast suggests that we need to batten down the hatches for the next couple of days, that won't help to dispel the humdudgeonry.
