Parking ticket machines

What happened to our society that these machines suddenly became so complicated?  If I had the chance, I would ensure all machines were exactly the same and were designed with simplicity in mind.  This machine is unusable unless a) you have your glasses with you b) can remember your number plate and c) have a degree in electronics.  Grrrrrrr....
