Life after Burradoo, NSW

There was movement at the station . . .

Well something is happening at the golf course but I'm not sure what. The words that immediately came into my mind when I saw the work going on was "There is movement at the station . . . ". That's not an uncommon reaction amongst Australians when they see something finally happening.

Most Australians will recognise those words as the first line of the 1892 poem by A. B. 'Banjo' Paterson The Man from Snowy River . The story of the Man from Snowy River is part of Australian folklore.  In 1982 there was a hugely successful movie made of the story of the poem. We still enjoy watching it on DVD from time to time. It's worth it for the fantastic scenery and horsemanship. The producers did upset Australians by casting Kirk Douglas, an American actor, in one of the lead roles. They did that to make the movie more marketable overseas but they didn't need to do so - the Snowy Mountains and the horses and the great music did the trick.
