Shimpling Thorne house
Today we ventured out for a 4-mile walk along (mostly) footpaths, a circular walk starting in the village of Shimpling. It was just as well that we chose to wear wellington boots ( a first for me!) as the ground is still saturated. As you can see from the photo, it was a nice sunny day and we enjoyed the walk which took us past Shimpling Thorne, a somewhat remote estate quite distant from a made-up road. Research told me that this is an old manor house and there are some account records in the National Archives from as early as 1286. It is shown on the Internet as now being a hotel, though there were no signs to that effect that we could see as we walked past.
