Ship Canal
Today's walk took us to Latchford Locks on the Manchester Ship Canal. The locks at Latchford control the tidal flow while above this point the canal is fed by the Rivers Irwell and Mersey. With the rain and snow of the last few days there is a lot of water around. There are 3 sluices at Latchford which are used to control the flow of water.
Looking east from Latchford you can see the Thelwall viaduct which carries the M6 motorway across the canal.
