Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Another half hour on the bike this morning! Then a walk! (8,054 steps). I was lured out with the promise of a coffee (we have run out of coffee pods at home - waiting for our delivery). What had been a favourite cafe, which closed and didn’t re-open in the first lockdown, then opened under new owners, has not been visited. It’s closed on  Mondays, which is when I used to pop in to its predecessor after my BodyStreet torture session.

There are nearby picnic tables, so we thought it’d be a good idea to try their coffee. Not terribly impressed, though. My ‘flat white’ was tepid, and JR’s ‘long black’ was the much larger (and weaker) Americano. Had we been in the cafe, we would have been able to sort them. But we will go back when everything opens up, as their breakfasts look good.

We walked back through Bruntsfield, quite a few take-aways open with plenty of folk waiting in sensible queues. Back through the Links, and JR decided to go further. I’d had enough, and came home to listen to my audio book.

Archie and JR walked on into town. They can speed up and go further when I’m not tagging along with them, and JR wants to get her steps up (10,855 steps). Here they are in town. Those renovations of the National Gallery have been an eyesore for a couple of years now, but have hit unexpected obstacles like seeping dampness, asbestos and drainage problems. Another year or so yet, then...
