Looking Down the Path

This the the path that leads down to the ocean in the distance; it is adjacent to our son's in-laws house on the beach. We went over there to see if the recent high tide and stormy conditions had caused any damage to their house; it looks okay, but there is evidence that the water had rushed up this path in the last couple days carrying all those sticks and debris. At the exit of this path to the dune going down to the shoreline, there was a very large tree stump with roots attached blocking the opening; there might have more debris if it had not blocked anything else from entering. I saw the power of the water taking HUGH trees, roots & limps still attached and rolling them onto the shoreline..... and then picking it up off the shoreline and moving it back out to sea and then washing it even further back on the shoreline to deposit it finally on the dune's edge. Amazing show of power for the last 3 days! The rainfall has been epic too, so the flooding is extended into low lying neighborhoods, several blocks from the beach; luckily we are up a hill a few blocks from the flooding on our side of town. I would love a beach house with an ocean view, but there are advantages to just being walking distance to the beach and on a hill! There are houses in Rockaway on a higher hill with a great view that we considered, BUT they are susceptible to mudslides. I think we are good where we are now,

My daughter and her friend finished unloading the pods with her furniture and other things yesterday; they loaded the U-haul and were ready to drive to Mesquite last night, Nevada they planned to drive east to Boise, ID and then down south. They left this morning, but they were turned back on I-84 because of a mudslide blocking the road; so they took another route East on the Washington side of the river only to be stopped and told all trucks, including U-Hauls, could not proceed because of a mudslide. So they decided to take the longer route going south on I-5 (after wasting 4 hours and a half tank of gas.). I haven't heard from them since 2PM when she was only in Salem, Oregon which is about one hour from our house. They have to go over Mt Shasta on I-5 which is often very slippery and snowy so I am anxiously awaiting their call tonight saying they made it to Redding, California where they plan to spend the night. YIKES....not an easy trip so far. They will still have a 12+ hour drive from Redding to Mesquite, NV and they will have to cross the snowy mountains in California since they have to go East from there! I am glad they are young and healthy,strong and full of anticipation, for a new life in this warmer location. I would never to be able to survive that trip at this time of year without total fear and trembling. :-(( 

I know the challenge for WIDE Wednesday is Sky....but this is what I got.....sorry Bob. Thanks for hosting and thinking of great challenges.   I think I might tag this for wild Wednesday too since the scattering of all this debris is the WILD movement of the water and the wind on the ocean.
