Hard Session
My son, Alfred Ási (pronounced “Ow-see”), took up fencing last year. He has had a really tough couple of years. Recently, he was diagnosed with Atypical Autism.
He had been suffering at his old school - not making friends, getting bullied, not being able to stand the noise and many distractions from big class sizes.
Then, we moved him to another school - an international school. He was suddenly being taught in English, which took some adjustment. Although all of our kids are bilingual, they have all been in the Icelandic school system. So their primary language of instruction is always Icelandic.
But in no time at all, Ási was blossoming. The smaller class size makes a big difference. But so do the teaching methods and the curriculum really suits him.
When we finally got his diagnosis, it made complete sense. They threw in a bit of ADHD just for good measure. This didn’t surprise his teachers!
And now, after trying quite a few sports, he has found one he really enjoys. From the photo, you can see he also gets a pretty useful workout.
Well done son. We are very proud of you.
