Take a look around where you live you may see evidence of this
In 1696 window tax was introduced here, anyone with more than 10 windows had to pay extra tax , this was designed to sting the rich .
In some cases if a landlord owned a big property he would board up the windows resulting in some families having poor ventilation and lack of light. Thus more diseases were on the increase, this tax was not abolished until 1851 even though it was so unpopular
