Ecological Urbanism

Treated myself to a book that I've been hankering after for a while - it's a bit of a tome but it looks great and there's honners of pictures and diagrams in it too. Noice.

In my work, at the Cooncil and through my PhD, I guess I've always focused on more strategic environmental planning issues - what type of development goes where and broadly, what should it look like to contribute towards environmental enhancement.

I've come to notice a bit of a disconnect though between how strategic actions are translated to 'on the ground delivery' of projects. This is something I'm really focussing on in my thesis at the moment and it's opened up the world of 'urban design' which is just fascinating.

This notion of an 'ecological urbanism' is central to much of our work now and I think provides a useful bridge between strategic planners/decision-makers and our clever and more creative cousins working in the urban design field.
