Ardfern

What can I tell you about Ardfern then? Well its on the back road between Lochgilphead & Oban on what is locally known as the Kyber Pass! It is well signposted with a big wooden hand pointing in. The road runs alongside Loch Craignish. If you follow it all the way to the end (remember to shut the gate) you reach the point with a small ancient jetty (think it may have been for an old crossing to Jura though not sure)
There are a rich variety of residents living in the village, some of them rather wealthy including Sir Tom Farmer and if I told you which was his house, he might wish to kill me. One of the Royals has a boat moored there and if I told you which one, I may have to kill you! The other residents are ageing hippy types whose folks bought plots of land there in the 60's & 70's to house their tree hugging offspring who are now sitting on a fourtune of real estate. The most popular shampoo there is called "Go & Wash", the speed limit is 5 kilos. There is a rather good cafe called the Crafty Kitchen and an equally good hotel which also serves good food either in the bar where one can observe the local fauna or the posh part where you can look out over the loch although for how much longer I don't know as some one has applied for planning permission to build houses there. The Church of Scotland has also earmarked land for affordable & unaffordable housing but this seems to have split the village among those in favour of the chosen site & those wishing to locate it in the loch!. There is a lovely old wrecked boat that is very photogenic. I saw otters playing at the point and for the first time ever...wished I had a long lens to snap some bird like duck things with orange heads!. The local village hall has some very good events and the local village shop has a good variety of stuff especially fine wines!. Finally there are also wigwams and totem poles there too. Interested yet????? Oh and there is the old Craignish cemetary which is well worth a look though I thought at first I as being watched...but it was only my shadow!!!
