A Park in Périgueux
It's a beautiful day in Périgueux. It's a nice change from all the rain from the day before.
We finished the bread from last night?s dinner, which consisted of cheese and milk, with a Nutella and fruit. Wendy had apples and I had bananas. We got ready, paid for our room, and then left the hotel. We explored the medieval Renaissance part of town. We first saw the church, Cathedrale St. Front and afterwards we walked through the farmer's market right in front of the Front. :) There was a lot of fresh produce, fresh meats, and fresh goose fat in jars, or otherwise known as rillette, which is like pâté.
We walked and walked, and we saw these places in random order:
- Tour Mataguerre
- Maison des quais
- Rue de l'Abreuvoir
- Place de Navarre (where we had lunch)
- And other little nooks and crannies of the small town
We had lunch right at Papa Poulet (Papa Chicken) and we sat in the terrace outside. We ordered two rapides formules, which like was the dish of the day (tuna, potatotes, and some vegetables), a café, and dessert. It was really good and it was nice to have a sympa (nice) lunch in an authentic French bistro served by another sympa man. Since it was only a formula order, the meal set us back not too much.
After that, we found this pretty neat park right next to St. Front looking over the river. We asked the man photoed to take our picture and we then went to the Périgord Museum. We saw an eclectic mix of things - objects from Africa, South America, stuff real animals, a mammoth skull, ancient floor mosaics, and even a prehistoric skeleton.
The day came to a close and Wendy and I headed to the train station to buy our last tickets for the trip back to Bordeaux. It was really great spending time with Wendy. To sum up our spontaneous weekend, I would say, "Alors! Bon, ce week-end était très sympa."
(So well, this weekend was really nice.)
