Nothing is set in concrete

This photo was taken in response to the Mono Monday challenge.  Picturemull's excellent shot of a shiny new pedestrian bridge made of glass and steel made me think about how fashion affects everything, even bridges. 

This bridge was made of reinforced concrete in 1926, the year of the famous General Strike in the UK. It takes a main road over the River Dee into Kirkcudbright in southwest Scotland.  95 years ago it would have carried pedestrians, perhaps a flapper or two, horses and carts, and maybe the odd motor car.  It was built in, and for, another world.  Meanwhile, the birds fly over and the fish swim under.
