Palheiro Gardens

I took the 36 bus out of Funchal and it was scary. Packed, going fast round hairpin bends on narrow urban roads with sheer drops. But it was worth every gasp. I actually think that the madhead we had coming down on the 37 was worse. AND we had a bus inspector on with us checking up.

The Palheiro Gardens were even more peaceful and idyllic after that. It felt like heaven. As most of the cruise ship visitors were queuing for the cable car up to Monte, it was quiet. (The crowded bus was full of locals with their shopping).

It was disturbing to see that last year's fire near Camacha had reached the very edge of this paradise!

I spent a couple of blissful hours with my camera - and then went to the Tea House overlooking the rather exclusive Palheiro Golf.
