Palace

Ydy we visited the former palace of Sadam Husein on top of Gara Mountain (2060m high) . On the way up we got stuck twice in ice. The second time we were properly stuck for ages until some guys arrived and helped us. We ended up giving up and walking the last 3km up to the top. There are landmine warnings everywhere so we stuck to the road unless we knew it was safe. Playing in the snow was a lot of fun, and we even found a spent missile! The views were incredible, looking over at the snow covered mountains of Turkey. The palace got stripped bare when Sadam fell in 2003, it's now a soldiers outpost. There was a huge hole in the roof from a Turkish bomb.
