Fall Off
Most often, it seems, I use a narrow aperture because I'm either taking a view, or using a longer focal length, and want a wider depth of field. The woods, however, are quite busy and in order to make the log stand out in this scene, I chose to allow a fall off in sharpness.
I found gauging just how narrow a range of focus to employ in camera, to be a challenge. I think I'm on the bounds of acceptability with this image. It would have been nice to have the immediate foreground and more of the snow covered log leading off to the right, in focus.
