Today's Special

Today was 2021's first Bellingham Dockside Market at Squalicum Harbor, a good reason to get out into the fresh air and away from the nonstop analysis of Wednesday's shocking events.

The weather was mild for January, and this stand-up paddle boarder enjoyed a smooth ride. Twenty minutes later, the sky was brighter and the reflections irresistible -- to me, anyhow. (See extra photo)

We came home with 15 fresh oysters (Phil's favorite) from Drayton Harbor Oysters in Blaine, north of Bellingham; black cod fillets and smoked black cod from Over the Rail Seafood; and two quarts of hearty seafood soups -- one with a cream base and another with a tomato base -- from Island Girl Seafood.

Also available were local sea urchins, as well as salmon and shrimp, caught in Alaska. We'll purchase the latter two at the January 23 market. It's such a joy to support these small businesses!
