A Scottish Delicacy -The Deep Fried Mars Bar
The Deep Sea Fish & Chip Restaurant is a popular hangout following a night of pubbing & clubbing in Edinburgh’s "Pink Triangle".
Passing by this afternoon, on my Covid-19 exercise walk I came across the Deep Fried Mars Bar being promoted on Deep Sea’s window display.
I have never tried this delicacy, but its reputation goes before it. For the uninitiated a deep-fried Mars bar is an ordinary Mars bar normally fried in a type of batter commonly used for deep-frying fish. The bar is usually chilled before battering to prevent it from melting into the frying fat. Apparently, the tasty treat originated in Stonehaven in 1992 at the Haven Chip Shop and this new offering was reported in the local press. Then the story gathered momentum as the story was picked up by the national press, BBC Breakfast news and then the World Service.
