Sally Mair - Loving life

Loyalty!

Not sure I want to be loyal to 2020, I'd rather turn my back on it completely. I had a few surprises in the post today this being one of them. It has the total number of miles which I recorded on Strava last year, 890, not bad all things considered, lockdown, knee injury etc. Having said that 2019's total was 30% more at 1250. I'm not sure how I'll do this year either with February and possibly some of March written off post surgery. We'll see.

Another nice surprise were two delayed Christmas cards, one from NZ and the other from India. The Indian card was sent on the 17th December, so three weeks in transit. The minute I picked it up though, I realised that the envelope smelt of India. I'm not sure what it was, incense, powder, my friends perfume, camphor or a mix of them all. Just one sniff though and I was transported, wonderful, almost as welcome as the greetings were. I can still smell it now. Amazing that the smell has lasted so long and over so many miles of travel.

Today has been very cold. Colin and I went for a walk but picked our route very carefully. Surprisingly the cycle path was well salted and felt safer than any of the pavements which had hidden patches of very slippery black ice.

I joined the Borders Cursillo Ultreya meeting this evening. Good to have 21 screens there. I do enjoy these zooms, people were able to join us from all over Scotland and even into Northumbria. Now churches are closed again its a chance to meet up with friends and share some fellowship. We also sang carols all suitably muted. The first chance I've had all Christmas, it's just not the same listening to others and not being able to join in.

Keep safe and well everybody. A third vaccine has to be good news. Hope they'll have some left when it's my turn!
