Frozen
It was so cold today - feeling like-4°, but happily no wind. With slippery icy pavements, it’s a hard choice as where to walk. I have it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak, that the operating theatres in ERI are full of fractures.
I am lucky in that the estate is well salted and the grass in the Meadows is so frozen it makes a good walking surface and so it is not essential to use the paths or surrounding streets.
I spied a lorry and two men throwing sand and salt down on one of the paths and a grittier on the adjoining main road as I struck out across the grass but that was only at 11am. I think because we have had mild winters for the last few years, apart from the Beast from the East in 2018, that it comes as a shock when the temperature is below zero all day.
One of the blips today is of the coffee cabin in the Meadows which has become the no1 favourite place to get a takeaway coffee. People come from far and wide to get their daily stimulant and there is always a long socially distance queue straggling back along the path in front of the University Library.
