This was one of the double-ended steam passenger ferries that operated at 8 River Clyde crossings in Glasgow from 1865 until 1967. Here we see number 3 of 1908, the last to operate,  crossing from Finnieston (Stobcross) to Govan. It could carry up to 132 passengers.
Docked behind on the northbank is the vehicular ferry of 1908 with its vehicle deck able to rise and lower with the tide with room for 16 lorries. The four such ferries were withdrawn in mid 1960s with opening of the twin tunnel four vehicle lane Clyde Tunnel.
Passenger ferries numbers 8 and 10 were preserved to operate on the Forth and Clyde canal. Number 8 can be seen at Riverside Museum in Glasgow. No high level vehicle ferries were preserved.
