Stirling from the Abbey Craig

Abbey Craig is a volcanic outcrop upon which the Wallace Monument was built in the 1860s. The Wallace Monument hosted the fireworks at New Year. Apart from the Monument the Abbey Craig is home to a great variety of wildlife, broadleaf trees and conifers. It isn't a huge elevation at only 111 m (364 ft) but walking up to its viewpoint over Stirling gives you a bit of a cardio workout. Another perfect winter day with not a cloud nor a breath of wind. Blue sky, sunshine and hard frost. Absolutely beautiful for walking.

In the blip you get a glimpse of the River Forth bottom left. The castle is top left. The part of town most visible is an area called Causewayhead. The hills are the Gargunnock Hills and they stretch away to the north of Glasgow. The very flat land with the mist lying in an inversion is the Carse of Stirling.

We can walk to Abbey Craig from the house so that's what we did before lunch, stopping at the coffee cabin to pick up soup (sweet potato, carrot and ginger. Just right to warm a cold winter day) on the way home.

Yoga resumes tonight. It'll be good to stretch some different muscles.
