Nearly A Landscape
The main roads this morning were fine - but the side roads and pavements were sheet ice.
I saw 4 gritters doing what gritters do - but they were all on main roads which were completely clear and making a skid on the coating of grit just as likely as a skid on the roads that they refuse to go near. One of the roads I had to make a delivery in has a glazed ice surface about an inch thick - it was safer driving than walking that is for sure.
Despite the problems in the town streets the 5 Sisters seemed to just have a light dusting of snow.
The lead shot shows how flat the area is and why the winds can be such a problem.
Before taking my life in my hands and hoping that I would be able to stop at the junction at the bottom of the hill, I thought I would try and get a shot of the sun on the distant hills ..... a long lens would have helped.
When I got home I cleared some of the pavement of the ice (not easy) and an area for me to park in (so long as the new neighbour doesn't park his works van there ..... he is pissing off a few neighbours with his anti-social parking).
The nights are fair drawing out now - This was taken at 4.20pm. It was a nice sunset although it didn't last long.
