Fluttering Shearwater, about to submerge.
These little shearwaters can dive surprisingly deep, looking for morsels of food ...in this case stray bits of bait from our fishing efforts. They virtually fly under water. One blue cod today, one of the tastiest eating species but not caught as often as snapper.
The off shore islands up here, i.e. Hen & Chicks and Poor Knights, are major breeding grounds for a number of petrels and shearwaters, so huge flocks of them everywhere.
A second night in Tutukaka marina, as adjacent bays are a bit filled up. Met up by chance with friends on a yacht also "live-aboards" at Bayswater and had a great evening at the local pizza place.
