Gran Via Stalls for Kings' Day
On our walk tonight, we walked back home along Gran Via, one of the main thoroughfares in Barcelona and which is home to stalls leading up to Kings' Day on 6th January - the day of present giving here. There were about half the usual number of stalls and it was controlled by a one way system and by the number of people. Anyway, still quite nice to see, despite there being fewer and fewer real arts and crafts stall each year and more commercial stuff. I don't really have a big sweet tooth (but cheese, crisps, savoury things, yes!), but I was so hungry by the time we walked past this sugar-laden stall, I could have scoffed something! We didn't stop though and are now home, almost 16,000 steps under my belt and ready to have a selection of hams, pate, gherkins and crusty bread. There go the calories walked off going right back on!
In the morning we had two workmen in to do bits and bobs - why do they not bring all the things they need with them, but instead have to go off for an hour to buy this or pick up that machine? Bb told them not to bother doing that, but to just finish it on Tuesday when they come back. They looked quite surprised! It's the sort of thing I’d usually suggest :-)
A lovely surprise call this morning from HB from Perth, Australia this morning and a very nice catch up. She'd usually be with us in Bcn in July as part of her annual European visit (and usually for my birthday) but of course not this year. We'll just keep making a list for lunch time places HB if you look in here! A call with my brother busboy in the evening was also lovely and we always manage to laugh at something, which is especially good these days.
