A Trip to London - A Pearly King in Petticoat Lane
Today we visit Petticoat Lane Market which is a fashion and clothing market in Spitalfields, London.
Note the Pearly King - not a sight you see very often nowadays. Wikipedia describes the Pearly Kings/Queens as "known as pearlies ..an organised charitable tradition of working class culture in London, England" How quaint :)
Later that day we visit the New Theatre (now the Noël Coward Theatre) to see "Oliver!"
See This Link for a scan of the programme of the show.
Oliver premiered in the West End on 30 June 1960 and ran for 2,618 performances.
Aubrey Woods played Fagin for three years in the 1960s having taken over the part from Ron Moody (he died in 2013 aged 85). Raymond Ward played Oliver (and one of Fagin's boys in the 1968 film).
