A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, and please let it be better than last year.

I stayed the course last night which was surprising as I had expected to throw in the towel at 10pm. I blame Billy Connelly for keeping me up as I watched “It’s been a Pleasure “, a programme showing some of his programmes over the years. It brought back memories of Christmas 1974 when we were playing a record of one of his concerts which included one number- the Jobby Wheechers- a rather lavatorial skit based on aeroplane toilets, which had son #1 rolling on the ground laughing while my mother sat unamused saying, ”I don’t know how you are bringing up these children!”

Judging by the crowds of young people passing in the Meadows before midnight, I hazard the guess that the level 4 lockdown will be extended to the whole of January when the resulting spike of Covid appears in a week or so.

It was a lovely sunshiny day and after baking a Yorkshire Parkin cake and fielding phone calls on land line and mobile, sometimes at the same time, I took time to go and get a newspaper to read with my morning coffee.

Having steeled myself to stand on the scales this morning for the first time in 10 months, I was so suitably shocked that I felt I had to go out for a walk over what remains of the Meadows snowfields. The whole world seem to have the same idea so I thought to escape the hordes I would go off piste without realising I was crossing the honed to perfection sledge runs of yesterday. I’m so glad I had my spiked walking pole with me as the icy surface was not what I wanted. The paths were so busy, I cut short my outing and retired to the house and a stiff tumbler of Baileys...... I’m not weighing myself again until February.

It must be easier to make chocolate rabbits than chocolate reindeer otherwise why on earth would Santa have rabbits pulling his sleigh? I haven’t noticed any chocolate Easter eggs yet
