Another gannet
An adventurous and fabulous day. The sea and wind were forecast to be perfect for the next few days, so we decided to venture further in the boat than we ever have before. A little anxious I have to say, not being super experienced in boating matters, but here we are now in Whangarei Harbour, anchored up in Urquharts Bay watching the occasional gannet soaring over Calliope Island.
Along the way we saw dolphins and masses of fluttering shearwater and Bullers petrel, and several other unknown petrel species - they all look so similar. Some awesome scenery around the isolated Hen and Chicks group where the water is 50m deep just metres from the rocky shores. And 3 good size snapper (32, 35 and 45cm).
