Work in progress

We had a frosty start to the day, probably the coldest morning of the winter so far. I snuck out first thing to get bread and sausage rolls from the bakery. Then it was Merlin’s turn for a walk - the cool air and sunshine seemed to go to his head as he was rather spritely - especially when he spotted squirrels in the trees.

After lunch I popped to the allotment. I’d only planned to drop off some vegetable waste for the composter but got lured into transferring a jostaberry bush (a cross between a black currant and gooseberry) into the ‘new’ plot and then digging a few more of the new beds.

Another bonus of the day was stewing some of the apples I harvested from the allotment in the autumn. I think they were a dessert apple (Isle of Wight Pippin) rather than the cooking apple I grow, but they stewed down to a delicious pulp that will go well with our morning porridge.

Best wishes to you.
