Marshall Hall Outbuilding
Marshall Hall plantation was built in 1728, across the river from Mount Vernon, George Washington's home. The original plantation house was heavily damaged in the 1980s by arson and a bizarre incident in 2003 when the driver of a tractor-trailer drove through the fencing and plowed down much of what was left of the main house.
There was a popular amusement park located there for nearly a hundred years. Steamboats ran to the park from DC, Alexandria, and Mount Vernon. The Wison Line was one of the ferries that I remember watching as it sailed up and down the river. Now the nearly 700 acres of Marshall Hall belong to the National Park Service.
We were picking up firewood nearby and stopped in for a blip. There is really nothing left of the plantation or the amusement park. This little outbuilding is the only solid structure left.
