Happy Memories!

I pulled into the car park at the gym today, and parked next to this twenty year old Mark 2, which still looked to be in pretty good condition.

It took me back a little way - my first car, twenty years ago, was a Mark 1 Golf (the 1600 GLS version, wow!!) which I bought from my uncle, who bought it from his father (my grandfather). It already had well over 100,000 miles on the clock when I got it, and I probably added another 50,000 over the next five or six years. A fantastic car (he recalls through rose tinted spectacles), which only misbehaved spectacularly once, when a wheel bearing exploded and the wheel fell off. Funnily enough, just after it had been MOT'd and they said they'd tightened said offending item up 'a bit'. Hmm...

Let's hope my newer version is as reliable as the older ones!!
