A light covering of snow...
... had arrived sometime overnight. So I decided to take a sunny mid-morning walk with my camera, along a public footpath which was once a railway track.
A short distance along the path there is an old railway arch with some steps (see my extra) which take you to a farm field above the path. Once in the field there were puddles in the sunlit snow. Having taken a few photos, including the blip with a face in the ice, I followed the edge of the field (as I have done many times) to eventually rejoin the railway path.
Then it happened, I stepped into a puddle. I immediately sank into an invisible hole up to my knees and wobbled backwards into a sitting position. I had quite a struggle to get out of the mess, with no-one around to help to see me make an idiot of myself!
Fortunately, I was probably less than a mile from home - but it was a squelchy experience, with wellington boots full of water and clothing soaked to the waist. I am particularly glad I had my walking pole/ monopod to help me get upright, or I might still be sitting in a deep puddle.
Back home, I got serious trouble from my 'carer'. The camera bag was just a bit damp on the outside and no damage done, except to my pride.
