Katherine
After a brilliant morning glass fusing in Heysham, Nina, Cherie and I played out in Heysham for a couple of hours. We explored the woods, looked for animal rock figures, collected shells and had a lot of fun jumping for photos. We also went into a little craft/second hand shop in town run by Katherine.
When I asked how long she'd been there Katherine said 'Since I was 7.... and I'm 77 now'... and it was amazing to think of her being in the shop for 70 years! It's a fantastic little place to look round, and Katherine still makes some of the items for sale there. We all bought some of her hand made turban hats, in different colours. She was quite particular about how we wore them, rearranging hair and angles to make sure they looked just right.
Katherine was really keen to have her photo taken, bringing out a big box of her favourite hats from the bag to model for us. These were ones she'd made, and loved so much she didn't want to sell. She showed us her favourite tartan one, and this one was a newly designed set with a matching hat, scarf and bag made from a recycled jumper I think it was.
