Today dawned as a lovely bright, cold and crisp winter's day. It was so great to have some sunshine after so many grey and cloudy days.
We got up at six this morning (we always like to get up whilst it is still dark on Christmas Day morning) and had a coffee just sitting in front of the tree with it's lights on having a good old chinwag before we started opening our presents.
We had a leisurely present opening with several glasses of Prosecco followed by our traditional bacon rolls. Lovely! Then me and my brother started the preparations for the Christmas dinner. We always like to get this started early whilst maintaining what we call "a low burble" - fairly constant uptake of various alcoholic beverages. Therefore, all the veg prep is done before ten in the morning and is followed by an early (well very early!) glass of wine watching a bit of telly.
The title of this image relates to the fact that whilst me and my brother both do the cooking at Christmas, I can sometimes start taking over a bit - or as I jokingly say "well someone's got to take control". He does find this funny because he says my voice lowers slightly and I stand up straighter with my shoulders back!
After we had cooked the turkey and left it to rest we (me, my brother and sister) went down to the memorial ground to take some flowers down for my mum. She always loved Christmas and would have been so happy that it was such a beautifully sunny day.
We then took a walk down to Aylesford village (this is where I took my image - I just caught the writing on the back of this van out of the corner of my eye) to build up an appetite for our meal. I love getting the meal ready and really enjoy cooking it but I always find getting all the elements on to the plate at the same time a bit stressful! However, once we have sat down and I get the first glass of wine in my hand I start to relax again and thoroughly enjoy the meal.
