Flamborough Lighthouse
The original lighthouse was built in 1669 but was never lit. The second lighthouse was built and in 1806 the cost of the new lighthouse was £8000. The current electric fog signal was installed in 1975. Both lighthouses still remain on he headland. The headland here is Britains only Northern chalk cliff. The whole site along this area is a geological conservation area. The cliffs are home to various birds such as the Atlantic Puffins, Kittiwakes and Gannetts.
If your in Bridlington during the summer months it is worth popping on the Yorkshire Belle which sails up to Flamborough Head where you can see these birds nesting in the cliffs, it is an awesome sight. There are formations in the cliffs that look like elephants, its a completely natural formation and amazing to see, and it can only be seen from the sea so you need to be on a boat to experience it.
