There were symbols of autumn. winter and spring on our walk today.  Hundreds of fallen apples were lying beneath four trees at various places beside an old railway track and we were surprised that the local wild creatures still had a potential feast left. (extra)   Some hazel catkins actually in flower was a reminder that spring is around the distant corner but the pillar box decoration was the first I have ever seen although I know that some communities in England have very elaborate decorated post boxes.
